Associated Press | Federal health officials are warning
consumers that the weight loss pill alli may cause severe liver damage
in rare cases. The Food and Drug Administration says it has added a
warning about the risk to the label of the drug, which is sold
over-the-counter by GlaxoSmithKline. A prescription version called
Xenical is marketed by Roche.
The FDA identified 13 instances of liver damage associated with the drugs. A causal effect between the drugs and the problem has not been established.
The FDA urged doctors and patients to watch for signs of liver injury, including itching, yellow eyes and skin and loss of appetite.
Glaxo said in a statement it is “committed to ensuring that consumers and physicians understand the safety profile” of alli.
Of course its beyond the capabilities of a federal government agency to simply ban a dangerous diet pill. At least the feds are consistent…everything they touch turns to shyte.
Just great, first the food supply is turned into crap with all the aspartame, trans -fats, chemical food dyes, GM foods, pesticides enriched(ie depleted) foods, etc, etc. Then when people get fat and unhealthy they give them a pill that condemns them to a slow lingering death from liver failure.
I notice the FDA in the past has sent supplement makers to jail, not for any evidence of harm from their diet pills, but because they claimed that people were still fat after taking their product and thus it was false advertising. So should we expect that the makers of Xenical will soon be facing judgment as there is documented evidence of harm? Or in this sort of case is it just a “label change” and off to the next drug in the pipeline?

I had to go off it because I couldn’t afford it anymore so I’m
thankful I got off it. It worked very well, too, if you followed directions.
I also tried Hoodia which I loved but then it elevated my blood pressure dramatically, so that went too..
