The ivy-covered outfield walls aren’t the only green at Wrigley Field.

Four companies and the Chicago Cubs announced a recycling initiative at the ballpark Wednesday that is expected to save about 165,000 pounds of cardboard and plastic materials from landfills.

As part of the team’s “Real Fans Recycle” program, specially-marked
recycling bins will be placed throughout the park for all plastic cups.

Fans also will use 100 percent recycled napkins, compostable plates and
cutlery, and ushers and event staff will wear shirts made from 100
percent recycled materials.

Partners in the program are Solo Cup Co., Allied Waste, Free Green Can
and Levy Restaurants.

Wow! This is progress. The Sox have been recycling cups at least since the new park opened in the early 90s. Kids collect cups and exchange them for trinkets, etc.
Of course, the Cubs can’t afford the trinkets.
