Gold Coast plastic surgeon is Barack and Michelle Obama’s new next door neighbor, according to Cook County property records posted online this week.

The surgeon and his wife, who is registered in Illinois as an attorney for a Texas-based   homebuilder, did not return phone calls or an e-mail seeking comment on the $1.4 million purchase. The Tribune is not identifying the buyers because they are not public figures.

According to a source, the couple is not planning on moving for another 18 months, as they renovate the three-story, 6,000 square-foot home at 5040 South Greenwood Ave. and construct an addition. The listing agent, Matt Garrison, has told media outlets that the home needs about $1 million worth of work.

The new owners have children who attend school on the South Side, according to two sources.

The previous owners, Bill and Jacky Grimshaw, listed the house in October for $1.85 million. That announcement sparked nationwide media attention.

The Tribune is not identifying the buyers because they are not public figures. Since when did the Tribune start respecting people’s privacy? How is the plastic surgeon different from the investment firm executive? My guess is the cosmetic surgeon is related to someone high up at the Trib and is thereby gaining special treatment…..

Unlike the investment firm executive, these folks are not being accused of any wrong doing so they deserve to have thier privacy protected.

if you really want to know who bought this house just wait for the property tax info to be updated. its public record.
but really who cares? i know i don’t.
maybe that is what is wrong with the world, people are always in someone else mix

This is a travesty. A lawyer and a gold coast plastic surgeon should be able to buy a much better house than that.

I hope they don’t rip out any of the original features. It drives me crazy when people buy great old houses and then try to make them new. If you want a new house, buy a new house, dang it!

    Good one, Nanophobe!
I agree that the coverage of this story is somewhat suspect. The buyers may not be public figures, but the sale of the property has drawn national attention and this story belongs in BOB GOLDSBOROUGH’S ELITE STREET! He would have revealed the buyers’ names and made the story interesting…unlike this snoozer of a post.
