| There may be nothing like a recession to make workers more devoted to
their jobs, according to a new survey. Temporary-help company Kelly Services claims that 34 percent of
employees said they were now more loyal to their companies, while 14
percent were less loyal. Workers in Chicago are more loyal to their employers than
those in Houston or Boston: 32 percent of respondents in Chicago said they felt more loyal toward their employers, just
behind
Los Angeles’ 34 percent. 41 percent of Chicago’s respondents said they feel “totally committed” to
their company.
When asked to name one thing that would make them
more committed to their jobs, workers in Chicago as well as Boston said “more interesting or challenging work,” while workers in Los Angeles,
Northern California, and Houston said it’d have to be “higher salary or
benefits.”
Kelly Services representative Kathy Fisher said the results were not affected by workers’ fears that they might lose their jobs. “Based on the survey results, workers who are more loyal to their employers attribute the shift to positive management, pay levels that have improved or remained steady, and active communication from senior executives,” she said. “Those who are less loyal say it’s due to poor management, falling pay, and low company morale.”
She also said that data for temporary workers was not available; the survey did not differentiate whether the employee was working in a temporary position, as an independent contractor, or directly for an organization.
Only TEN PERCENT were from the US and we feel MORE loyal to our employers during a recessin?
Baloney !!!!!
Your company would cut you loose in a heart beat if they could or if they found someone to do your job for less in India !!!
Maybe in Europe where you get cradle to grave jobs and benifits and huge tax bills to pay for it but not here in the United States…..at least no yet !!!
It’s a sad statement about employment and our country but I know too many people who despise their jobs but only took them for the health care benefits. At least a government run public option, like Medicare, might actually allow workers to choose jobs they like.
I would say I am MORE loyal, however it is a very fake and temporary loyal. I will drop them like a bad habit if something better comes along, but I gotta keep up the act until then.
Ridiculous article, the so called loyality will only last until the unemployment figures go down then it will be bye-bye.
I’m an Executive Recruiter – I don’t believe it – professional employees are certainly not loyal !!
