Greenberg Traurig to repay Calumet Park

By Ameet Sachdev | International law firm Greenberg Traurig has agreed to repay $3.2 million to south suburban Calumet Park to resolve allegations that one of its partners billed the village for work he did not perform.

The refund represents all the fees former Greenberg partner Mark McCombs billed the village as one of its legal advisers since 2002. Cook County authorities charged that McCombs had stolen more than $1 million, but the firm said it was appropriate to return all of the fees. McCombs, who was fired after the allegations came to light earlier this month, has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge.

Good PR move and obviously the right thing to do, but the damage is already done to their name and reputation in the legal community, particularly in the area of municipal law.
