By Wailin Wong | Prepaid
carrier Boost Mobile said Tuesday it has opened eight new retail stores
in the Chicago area over the last month as part of a national expansion
plan.

The company, which offers mobile phones and service without long-term contracts and credit checks, now has nine total stores in the area. The first one, located in Oak Lawn, opened in August. The eight new outlets are in Chicago, Cicero, Crest Hill, Gurnee, Niles, Wheeling and Rockford.

California-based Boost Mobile has opened 37 retail stores in 16 states since May as its subscriber base continues to grow, with a net addition of 2.5 million customers in 2009. The company, which is owned by Sprint, said it now has more than 6 million subscribers and expects the total prepaid segment to encompass 63 million people by the end of 2010. Prepaid plans have grown in popularity as consumers seek more affordable and flexible wireless plans. Some prepaid carriers, including Boost Mobile, are now offering smart phones in their line-up, allowing customers to surf the Web from their devices without committing to a data plan at a traditional carrier.

Boost Mobile aired its first-ever Super Bowl ad over the weekend with a spot featuring the original “Super Bowl Shufflers” from the 1985 Chicago Bears music video. Former Bears player Otis Wilson, who was in the ad, will be at the new Boost Mobile store at the Golf Mill Shopping Center in Niles on Friday.

Its difficult to find cheap site developer lately that will actually produce a great website. Its really too bad that “affordable” has become synonymous with “ugly”.

Don’t ask me why, but I love this guy. I had no prior knowledge of him until I saw this figure on the back of the Blue Beetle card. I’d go as far as to say he motivated me to pick up wave 7 and start collecting DCUC (!). Mine did come with a messed up emblem, though. It’s missing a small section on one of the outer loops. Kind of depressing because it was the only Aquaman figure I had come across at that point and I really wanted to complete AS. Of course I saw another Aquaman at Wal-mart last and almost bought him just to switch out the torso and return him, but decided against it because the rest of the torso had sloppy paint. It would just be an endless cycle. I determined it would be easier to fix the logo myself.

I really love facebook’s new “like” button. Want to be able to “like” anything you want? Look at this site, it does exactly that: http://www.fbliker.net
