Abbott Laboratories popular anti-AIDS drug Norvir may harm the heart
when used in combination with another treatment used in the  treatment
of HIV, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said this morning.

The FDA said preliminary data suggest “Invirase in combination with
Norvir may have potentially important adverse effects on the heart,”
the agency said.

“Review of the data is ongoing,” the FDA said. “Preliminary findings suggest that some patients using Invirase and Norvir may be at an increased risk for heart abnormalities leading to irregular heart rhythms.”

The FDA said patients using Invirase should talk to their doctors and report any side effects to the FDA’s MedWatch program: http://www.fda.gov/safety/MedWatch/default.htm

Abbott could not be reached this morning for comment.

I can’t say that I agree with you on this completely, but you definitely make some valid points.

A quick survey of the prevailing market price of Viagra tablets will suggest that at this rate, only the elitist few will be afford a constant use of the little blue pills, an especially worrying trend.
